Tis the Season.

I'm too scared that someone will steal this if I put it outside. I'm probably crazy.
Happy Halloween! ;)

Bangs.

It's been such a long time since I've posted on here, I usually forget to do so, unfortunately. :|
I've missed two weeks of Music Thursday, but, what are you gonna do?

On an awesome note, I finally decided to take the plunge and was able to convince my sister to give me bangs. I'm in love with them, much more than I had anticipated.

Here's a before and after picture:

And here's pictures from today. I just got this headband from Forever 21, and I wasn't completely sure when I bought it, but now I'm obsessed with it. ;) (I'm also 12 and take a lot of mirror pictures now.)

Hope you're all having a great week, I'm looking forward to the weekend myself.

Stylish Surprise.

I also forgot to tell you guys that I got my package from Mod Cloth in the mail today. I paid $15 to get a stylish surprise, and ended up getting this pretty cute dress. It's not something I'd choose for myself, but it DOES have a bow, it was cheap, and for that price I can make it work. ;) I paired it with the twisting tree necklace I also got in today.

Music Thursday!

Man, it truly does not feel like it's been a week since I've done this. Time has been flying by, and I can't believe my Spring Break is almost over. Time to get back on track with reality, I suppose.
Today I leave you with two videos of two wonderful songs.

Fire and Rain by James Taylor. A great artist, and a fantastic song.

Everlong (Acoustic) by Foo Fighters. I've always enjoyed the song Everlong, but just recently discovered the acoustic version... and am so glad I did.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! We just got Netflix back, so I will be spending mine watching Skins, The Office, and Mad Men. ;)

Music Thursday.

So I haven't been on here much, and there's really not much a reason for that besides having nothing too interesting to write about currently... and I forgot about doing this last Thursday, whoops!

Currently I have been wanting to watch P.S. I Love You so much, and so I have. I love that movie, it makes me laugh and it makes me cry (a lot!). If you haven't seen it, I suggest checking it out. Anyways, they ended the movie with such a fitting song, and so I've been listening to that frequently. It's called If I Ever Leave This World Alive by Flogging Molly. My sister really likes this band, and I never really liked them at all, so it's surprising how much I love this song, but I do. I really really love it. I have listened to it 50 times within a couple of days.
If I ever leave this world alive
I'll take on all the sadness
That I left behind
If I ever leave this world alive
The madness that you feel will soon subside
So in a word don't shed a tear
I'll be here when it all gets weird
If I ever leave this world alive

I found this next song while scrolling through Tumblr. I don't always stop and listen to songs that I don't know, but sometimes I'll take the time to listen, and I'm glad I did with this one. This is one of those bands where I've heard a few of their songs, and I like them, but I haven't listened to too many. But this song is so beautiful, I Want to Know Your Plans by Say Anything. According to SongMeanings.net, I have an alternate version of the song, but I like the lyrics more than the original.
I want to know your plans and how involved in them I am
When you leave for good this fall will I be forgiven
And if you want roses, I'll buy a bouquet
If that just won't cut it, well what can I say
You're what keeps me believing this world's not long dead
Strength in my bones and the words in my head

The last song that I'm doing for today is by a band that I love, and this song is on repeat whenever I'm in a not so happy mood. Yes, I like to wallow in my sadness. Maybe that's odd, maybe not, but either way it's what I do. This song just strikes a chord with me, I can relate to it very well. Isaac Brock, you are a genius! The World at Large by Modest Mouse is one of my favorites. It's high in my Top 25 Most Played on my iTunes. I can't choose a small section of lyrics to post from this song, so it'll be longer than usual, but enjoy it! These lyrics are gold. GOLD.
The days get shorter and the nights get cold
I like the autumn but this place is getting old
I pack up my belongings and I head for the coast
It might not be a lot but I feel like I'm making the most
The days get longer and the nights smell green
I guess it's not surprising, but it's spring and I should leave
I like songs about drifters, books about the same,
They both seem to make me feel a little less insane
Walked on off to another spot, I still haven't gotten anywhere that I want
Did I want love? Did I need to know?
Why does it always feel like I'm caught in an undertow?
The moths beat themselves to death against the lights, adding the breeze to the summer nights
Outside, water like air was great, I didn't know what I had that day
Walk a little farther to another plan, you said that you did, but you didn't understand
I know that starting over's not what life's about,
But my thoughts where so loud I couldn't hear in my mouth

I didn't mean to end this post on a somber note, but it looks like that's what's happening.
You know those songs that you feel you could've written (not as well, of course) because it's how you feel exactly? Yeah, that song needed to be posted for that reason. I do hope everyone has a good day, my Spring Break has officially begun, so I have much to look forward to. :)

Sunday Date Night.

So, if you know me, then you know that I love vampires. (Who doesn't these days?)
So I've been wanting to see the new Underworld since it came out. I was quite bummed after the third was released because I figured it would be the last one, and I was especially bummed since Selene is one of my favorite characters and she wasn't in it, so you can only imagine my excitement when I found out about Underworld: Awakening! I planned on going with my sister and waited for her, but she's always busy and I didn't want to miss it in theaters, so I took myself out tonight. Sometimes it's nice to go out alone, and I really enjoy it every now and then. Since I don't have a Valentine this year, I took myself out on a date to the 3D showing tonight and grabbed some nachos and a frozen coke. It was a lovely date, and besides, you really must love yourself before you can others, right? :)
Happy Valentine's Day!

Weekend Fun!

My twin, Cody.

Cody's boyfriend, Rob.
So this weekend my best friend came up and visited from Texas. We used to live together, we were inseparable in high school, and I haven't seen him in months, so I've missed him very much! I got to his mom's around 11 in the morning and stayed until almost 3 in the morning, it felt just like old times. Miranda was there, and Kimmie came over, I've really missed hanging out with all of them together, it was way too much fun.
Unfortunately, I only got to see him on Saturday and he's already off to Texas as I write this. However, I plan on flying down for Spring Break and visiting for about a week. :) Gosh, I love my friends.

New feature: Music THURSDAY!

I've really enjoyed blogging on here so far. I do have a tumblr, but I mostly use that to reblog what others have posted, and this is more personal-which I like! So I decided I would start doing a regular feature, just to keep my blog consistent and what not. We'll see how this goes!

One thing that I love doing is listening to music. Since I'm not working right now, and just focusing on school, I have a lot of spare time. The majority of this time is spent online, reading, playing/cuddling with my cat, homework, studying, trying out new crafts, (I'm not particularly crafty, but I've been looking at different blogs for ideas and inspiration!) and listening to music while I do all of it. So, after some thought, I figured I would do like a Music Monday, in a way, but how about we change it to Music Thursday? :) I'll be posting songs that I've been loving during that week. It seems like a fun idea, so let's get started!

I kid you not when I say that this particular song I had on repeat last night, I must've played it about 20 times in a row: Don't Think Twice, it's All Right by Bob Dylan. The guitar at the beginning of that song, that was enough to reel me in the first time I heard it. It's definitely one of my favorite songs, and I feel like it's a song we can probably all relate to in one way or another.
I'm a-thinkin' and a-wond'rin', walkin' down the road,
I once loved a woman, a child I'm told
I gave her my heart, but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right

The next song is from a band that I've always liked, but never took the time to really look into more of their music, other than their hits. I recently got a few of their albums, and have been listening to them a lot recently! White Moon by The White Stripes. That song is so heart-wrenchingly beautiful to me. If you've seen Under Great White Northern Lights, then you could probably understand how I had grown to love it so much more after viewing that. I would be lying if I said I don't tear up near the end of that scene, where Meg is crying, and Jack pulls her in for comfort. Ah, it gets me every time!
Good lord, good lord
The one I adore
And I cannot afford is a ghost
Is a ghost

Here's another example of a great band that I never really took much time to actually listen to, but I'm glad that I have finally started. The melody of this song is gorgeous: Soma by The Smashing Pumpkins. I could honestly listen to this song on repeat for days, I get lost in it every single time I listen.
Didn't want to lose you once again
Didn't want to be your friend
Fulfilled a promise made of tin
And crawled back to you
I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
I'll betray myself
To anyone, lost, anyone but you

The last song is from a band that I actually have been listening to for a while now. Let me just say that I'm completely in love with Zooey Deschanel, okay? I get a lot of inspiration from her. She seems like such a wonderful human being, I feel like I can relate to her, her style is to die for, she's an amazing actress, and she has such a beautiful voice. You guys, she is the ultimate package! Anyway, this song is a great one to listen to before going to sleep, I have to admit, I'm guilty of doing so myself-it may or may not promote good dreams, not to mention, it's so comforting! If You Can't Sleep by She & Him. Zooey and M. Ward are such a perfect little group, and I'm proud to say I own all of their records on vinyl, including the Christmas one. I'm a sucker for Christmas music during the holidays. ;)
If you can't sleep, I'll be there in your dreams
I'll be there in your dreams if you can't sleep at all
And in your dreams, I'll touch your cheek
And lay my head on your shoulder

I hope you guys enjoy the songs I chose, and if you haven't listened to them yet, I HIGHLY suggest doing so! These are absolutely songs that I can't just listen to once. Ugh, I love them!

The Marvel of the Sky

I miss driving an hour away, during the summer, to the 'dark spot' and laying on the beach, looking at the stars with my favorite people (at that time).

Family

Today I'm writing about another (little) person who plays a big part in my life: my nephew, Ayden. He is so so adorable and I couldn't wait to meet him after Sarah announced she was pregnant with him in 2009. We waited at the hospital for hours and hours, it seemed like forever. He has a sister on the way, Milah, and I am so excited to have a little niece to be girly with. :)
As he's grown, I've always been around, my mom watches him daily, and I love playing with him. He's so wonderful, and it's so much fun to see him grow up! From him not being able to say anything, to now being able to call me Aunt Sheesha, and insisting with my mom's phone in his hand, to call me.
I thought I'd post some pictures from Christmas that I just uploaded from my camera of my baby boy.

Here he is playing with my phone that he somehow was able to get ahold of.

Rocking Kimmie's fedora that she got for Christmas.

Playing with the firetruck that I got him, I was able to get it from Toys R Us
on Black Friday for much cheaper than it was being sold.

I'm not exactly sure who got him the guitar,
but my mom clearly had a tough time getting it back from him.

I love my nephew dearly, and as he grows, I hope he knows that I'll always be there for him if he ever needs anything. That also goes for his little sister who should be arriving in March.

06 February 2012

Hello!

I thought I would start with an introductory post. :)
My name is Alyssia, I'm 20, a student, and I live in Ann Arbor with my sister and cat!

Here's a picture of what I look like.
You'll probably find quite a bit of these on here, as well as several pictures of my cat, Lua.

There's my baby! She's a sphynx cat, and I've had her since I was 18.
Lua's a sweetheart, as well as a trouble maker. She's my cuddle monster, and I couldn't imagine life without her now. She's cuddling on my lap as I type this. :)

This my sister and I (on Halloween and Christmas.)
She's my best friend, my soul mate, and I love her a ridiculous amount!!!

Well, I hope you guys enjoy my blog. Here's to starting a new adventure!
